What is Referral Programme?

A structured incentive scheme that rewards existing families for recommending your business to new customers.

In Detail

A referral programme is a formalised system that encourages and rewards your existing customers for referring new families to your business. Word-of-mouth is consistently the most powerful and cost-effective acquisition channel for children's activity businesses — a structured referral programme amplifies this natural behaviour by giving families a reason to actively recommend you.

Common referral incentive structures include: a credit or discount for both the referrer and the new family, a free session or class credit, entry into a prize draw, or a tangible reward such as a branded water bottle or rucksack. The most effective programmes reward both parties — the existing family feels appreciated and the new family gets a welcome incentive, creating a positive first impression.

The mechanics of your referral programme should be as simple as possible. Complex rules, hard-to-use codes, or delayed rewards dramatically reduce participation. Ideally, integrate referral tracking into your booking system so that a unique referral link or code is automatically attributed when a new family signs up. Promote the programme at key moments: in your welcome pack, at the end of each term, after positive feedback or a high NPS score, and on your website.
