What is Drop-In Session?

A pay-as-you-go class that does not require advance booking or commitment, offering flexibility for families who cannot commit to regular blocks.

In Detail

A drop-in session is a class where families can attend on a casual, pay-per-session basis without committing to a block booking or ongoing membership. Drop-ins are typically priced at a premium compared to the per-session cost of a block booking, reflecting the flexibility offered and incentivising regular commitment.

Drop-in sessions serve several strategic purposes: they act as a low-barrier taster for new families considering joining your regular programme, they allow existing customers to attend additional sessions beyond their usual booking, they fill last-minute spaces in classes that are not quite full, and they cater to families with irregular schedules who genuinely cannot commit to weekly attendance. Some businesses offer dedicated drop-in classes, while others allow drop-in attendance at any class with available spaces.

The main challenge with drop-ins is unpredictability — you do not know how many children will attend until they arrive, making staffing and planning harder. Setting a capacity limit and encouraging advance booking (even same-day) through your booking system helps manage this. Track your drop-in data carefully: what proportion of drop-in attendees convert to regular bookings? If the answer is low, you may need to improve your follow-up process.
